About The Honey Bringer and Sex Worker Freedom Festival, Kolkata.

Sex Worker Open University, a collective of sex workers and allies based in the UK, is proud to announce the release of the Honey bringer, a 30 mn documentary on the historical sex workers’ gathering that took place in Kolkata, India, in July 2012.

What is Sex Worker Freedom Festival?

In July 2013, several hundreds sex workers and allies from 36 countries attended the Kolkta’s alternative AIDS conference *.

.Due to travel restrictions banning people who use drugs and sex workers from the U.S territory, and therefore from the International AIDS conference, NSWP, the Global network of Sex Work projects and DMSC, Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee, the biggest sex workers organisation in India organised the Sex Worker Freedom Festival in Kolkata.

The festival took place between the 21st and 26th of July 2012 and included plenary sessions about the 7 freedoms, workshops, focus groups on male and trans sex workers, the launch of NSWP+ , a demonstration with several thousands sex workers and allies and much more

* “667 participants, including 130 international sex workers from 43 countries, and more than 400 Indian sex workers; along with representatives from networks of people living with HIV, people using drugs, men who have sex with men and transgender people; UNAIDS and Cosponsors; national governments; international non-governmental organisations; academics; and service providers.”
